Me holding my Aqara FP300

First

Aqara FP300 - Aqara started shipping the new FP300 sensor on Amazon. This is one of the most exciting smart home product announcements of 2025. The FP300 is a battery-operated millimeter wave sensor. This means you aren’t tied to an outlet like other Aqara mmWave sensors. I posted a video about it on release day. The sensor is currently sold out on Amazon US, but I bet Aqara will replenish the stock as soon as possible.

If you need a battery presence sensor soon, you might also checkout the LWR01 from Lafaer. I have one that I’m playing with too but I’d probably still go with Aqara’s if you can.

Second

Belkin Stand Pro recall - I covered this stand when it launched around CES 2024. It was the first product to support Apple’s DockKit standard. If you have one, please fill out the form to initiate your recall. Belkin considers the product to be a fire risk and recalled it along with other battery products. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like Belkin is replacing the stands with an equivalent product, but a refund is still nice.

Third

Tim Cook succession planning - A report from the Financial Times is getting reblogged all over, suggesting that Tim Cook might be stepping down as CEO as early as next year. Running a company the size of Apple must be unrelenting, even for the most capable people. I just hope for Tim that there isn’t increased urgency due to a health issue. John Gruber at Daring Fireball suggests this was an intentional leak by the board and that this could happen in the first half of 2026. I agree with many people that John Ternus is next in line to be CEO.

The Schedule

Last week I had a fun live stream along with the Aqara FP300 video. This week, I have several upcoming projects, including the new website I mentioned last week, various channel updates, and another product review video. I’ve been busy! And the best is yet to come.

Some more context on the website and newsletter - This has not been a huge time commitment for me, but I’m moving my website back to Ghost. This will make publishing this email newsletter much easier. It will also provide me with some better tools to create a reference list of deals from around the web for times like Black Friday. I am almost done with the website, but I was concerned that actually flipping the switch days before sending this newsletter would cause DNS and email issues when sending this edition out to everyone, so I pushed the launch back a little. You won’t have to do anything to keep getting these emails. Everything will be migrated over.

I hope you have a great rest of your Sunday.

Eric
